African Grey Parrot Pets

African grey parrots can make great pets, due to they make loving companions and due to their intelligence.

NOTE: The article below contains mostly all the disadvantages of owning an African Grey, please do not let the information put you off, these are amazing pets, and as with all pets, there are disadvantages.

Although African Greys can make great pets, if you have children within your household, purchasing an African Grey would be a bad idea, due to both the parrot and children can get injured easily. For example they can use their claws and beak to scratch.

Also African Grey parrots can be difficult for some people to keep this is probably due to unlike normal pets, they are always active and need to be checked on several times a day. Parrots can be untidy, for example when they are feeding seeds or other food is likely to get thrown out of the cage and even appear on walls.  Their cages also need to be cleaned daily, due to their excretions which are totally inconsistent and appear in bowls, on toys, and anywhere else in the cage. Due to this, you will have to wash the cages thoroughly  to kill bacteriaAS and any smell.

African  Greys like to chew on everything, and when I say everything, I mean it. They mostly enjoy to chew on pieces of wood, probably due to they do this in the wild, however be aware that they will chew threw clothes, curtains, materials, etc. If you can many objects around the house, ensure these are in a safe place when letting your birds out of its cage.
